The moment many of you have been waiting for! A sneak peek of my second novel, In Search of St. Pierre. Obviously, it’s just a draft but I figured it might be nice to provide a teaser. Enjoy!
“It’s amazing out here. I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many stars at once.”
Emily looked into the night sky and quickly lost count as she tried to keep track of each one. A light breeze swept across her face as she took in the scene. The boat gently rocked back and forth.
“What makes it even more amazing,” Tristan interrupted. “is the fact that they are reflecting off the water almost perfectly.” He pointed out to the ocean where both the stars and moon could be seen on glass surface creating an optical illusion of outer space.
“It’s absolutely breathtaking,” Emily declared quietly.
“Not as breathtaking as you.”
Emily turned towards Tristan to see that all of his attention was focused on her. Speechless she looked down and began to play with a string she had conveniently found hanging from the bottom of her coat. Eager for her attention, Tristan gently took her by the chin and turned her towards his face.
“Tristan, don’t.”
He looked deep into her in the eyes before responding.
“Why won’t you just give me a chance,” he said, softly. “Why won’t you give us a chance?”
“Tristan, I’m not sure I want to change what we already have together.”
“And, what is that exactly,” he asked, sounding a bit confused. His eyes searched hers as he waited for some kind of answer.
“I don’t know,” she responded, turning away. Her voice sounded nervous. “I mean, I’d like to think that we have a great friendship between the two of us. We’re just two co-workers that happen to be really good friends.”
Tristan didn’t seem satisfied.
“Well, what if I want if I wanted to make that friendship into something more?”
“You’re not doing much to hide the fact that you obviously do.” Emily laughed nervously. She went back to playing with the string before focusing her attention on the dark water.
“Emily, I like you. I’ve always liked you and I would give anything to make our friendship into something more.”
Nervous, Emily turned to look at Tristan. The wind played between the strands of his dark brown hair as his green eyes sparkled in the moonlight. She tried her best not to get distracted.
“I’m just not sure I feel the same way,” she said.
“But you’ll never know unless you try.” Tristan responded, quicker than Emily had expected. Just as she began to look away, Tristan once again reached for her chin, this time slowly bringing her lips closer to his. Her heart began to tremble with both excitement and fear as she felt his thick lips press against her own.
